After four weeks away exploring Ireland's waterways, I'm finally back on the canals... and what a place to return to! This week aboard the Jolly Roger, I cruise the beautiful Montgomery Canal – often described as one of the most peaceful and least-travelled waterways in the UK. With hardly another boat in sight, stunning countryside, abundant wildlife and a slower pace of life, it's easy to see why so many boaters fall in love with "The Monty". Along the way I tackle the locks single-handed, catch up with fellow pirate-loving boater Tracy, visit friends enjoying a holiday aboard a hire boat, and discover whether this really could be Britain's quietest canal.
