Over the past few weeks, I’ve cruised my narrowboat home, The Jolly Roger, up the Llangollen Canal — through locks, lift bridges, and across aqueducts from England into Wales — all the way to the furthest point narrowboats can reach: Llangollen Basin. In this video, I share the full story of the Ladies of Llangollen — two women who chose to live life on their own terms — before winter brings cruising to a halt. With snow settling on the canal, I spend a few quiet days staying put: walking icy towpaths, tackling everyday boat chores, and soaking up the stillness that comes when the boat can’t move. Sometimes life on the cut is about adventure.
