Petersburg to Hobart Bay, AK | Our First Iceberg & Island Campfire S2-EP13 4K
Cruising from Petersburg, Alaska to Hobart Bay takes us deeper into the wild beauty of Southeast Alaska — and along the way, we experience a first we won’t forget… our very first iceberg. Floating silently in the cold blue water, it’s a surreal reminder of how powerful and untamed this place truly is. We continue into Inner Hobart Bay and drop anchor mid-channel, surrounded by towering forest and complete stillness. It’s one of the most unique anchorages we’ve had so far — remote, peaceful, and beautifully exposed in the middle of it all. After getting settled, we take the dogs ashore to stretch their legs and explore — and that’s when we stumble across something unexpected in the woods: vertebrae and bones scattered near an old fire ring, prompting a perfectly timed Lord of the Rings (Flies) reference from Mike. Later, we return to the island and build a beach campfire of our own, soaking in the quiet of this hidden forested spot. While on shore, I practice flying the drone over open water — launching from the island instead of the boat this time. Equal parts thrilling and nerve-wracking, the aerial views capture just how vast and untouched Hobart Bay truly is. Icebergs, mid-channel anchoring, hidden forest campsites, and moments you simply can’t plan — this is why we love cruising Alaska by trawler. 📍 Route: Petersburg, AK to Inner Hobart Bay 🚤 Vessel: Nordhavn 47 🌲 Region: Southeast Alaska / Tongass National Forest If you enjoy remote anchorages, trawler life, and real Alaska adventure, subscribe and follow along as we continue exploring the Inside Passage.
