Planning to travel around Italy by train? On our recent trip through Italy, we experienced both Business Class and 2nd Class on Italian trains and found some important differences along the way! In this video, we take you along on several train journeys across Italy, starting with our Business Class trip from Rome Termini to Venice Santa Lucia. We'll show you what the experience was like, including the seating, onboard food, and what you can—and can't—expect with a Business Class ticket. One thing that surprised us? Our ticket did not include lounge access at Rome Termini! Before boarding, we also stopped for lunch at Eataly inside Rome Termini. From Venice, we continued our journey toward Tuscany, traveling in 2nd Class from Venice Santa Lucia to Chiusi-Chianciano, with a stop along the way in Florence. This gave us a chance to compare the seating, food options, and overall experience between the different classes of service. We also discovered that not all 2nd Class tickets work the same way. On one train, we were able to select our seats in advance, while another segment had open seating where passengers could sit wherever space was available. Finally, we took the train back from Chiusi to Florence, once again traveling in 2nd Class. If you're planning a trip to Italy and wondering whether upgrading to Business Class is worth considering—or what to expect when booking 2nd Class—hopefully our experiences will help you decide! And if you're taking a cruise from Rome and need to get between Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), Rome, and Civitavecchia, be sure to check out our other video covering the different transportation options.
