Royal Caribbean Overboard: Woman Found Alive After 20 Hours
Royal Caribbean overboard rescue: a woman who went overboard from Odyssey of the Seas in the Ionian Sea was found alive after about 20 hours in the water. What we know: - She went overboard around 6 a.m. local time on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, while the ship was sailing from Mykonos to Naples, according to passengers. Passengers say the crew learned of it hours later from security camera footage. - Odyssey of the Seas turned around and searched for about 14 hours alongside Greece's coast guard, then resumed its voyage. Its Naples call was cancelled and the cruise ends in Civitavecchia on Oct. 11. - The search, coordinated by Greece's Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center, continued with a coast guard lifeboat and patrol boat, three passing ships and a Hellenic Air Force helicopter. - Early Saturday, Oct. 10, a passing Madeira-flagged cargo ship spotted her about 70 nautical miles southwest of Zakynthos. A coast guard rescue boat picked her up and took her to the port of Katakolo. She was conscious. - The captain told passengers she was being treated for hypothermia and "was walking off the boat by herself." Authorities have not released details of her condition. - Royal Caribbean: "We immediately launched a search and rescue effort and are working with authorities." If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 in the US. Outside the US, contact your local emergency number or crisis line.
