Sun Princess Disembarkation in Athens | Our First Day
What’s it like leaving Sun Princess and starting a city break in Athens? Join us for our disembarkation, hotel arrival, Acropolis views and our first wander around Athens. After a wonderful week on Sun Princess, it was time to say goodbye to the ship and begin our extra stay in Athens. We were genuinely sad to leave - Sun Princess has become our favourite cruise ship so far - but excited to explore a city that had been on our bucket list for a long time. We chose self-disembarkation and booked a private transfer from Piraeus cruise port to Niche Hotel Athens through GetYourGuide. Our driver was waiting for us with our names on a sign, and the journey took around 25 minutes. The hotel looked after our cases while we started exploring, and we were able to enjoy its rooftop views of the Acropolis before heading out. In this vlog, you’ll see: • Our final moments aboard Sun Princess • Early-morning views of the ship and Piraeus cruise port • Our private transfer to Niche Hotel Athens • The hotel lobby, rooftop and Acropolis views • Our first walk around Athens, including the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, Panathenaic Stadium, the National Garden and Zappeion • A quick stop for lunch and a look along Makrigianni Street • A first look at the hotel spa We had booked a massage and thermal spa experience at Spa 300 BC, and the hotel’s location was ideal for exploring on foot. Unfortunately, we accidentally formatted our memory card and lost footage of the massage and our evening meal at Elaea Dine & Wine. We’re gutted about that, but we’ve included what we could, and there’s plenty more of Athens to come in our next vlog. A couple of tips from our stay: if you’re interested in the hotel spa, consider booking your preferred time before you arrive. We also found it helpful to arrange our port transfer in advance and choose a hotel close to the sights we wanted to see.
