The Banana Cruise reaches its penultimate chapter with two dramatic days in Lisbon, Portugal, a stop full of iconic sights, festive atmosphere, and one more warning of storms ahead… We arrive into Lisbon in wet and windy conditions, sailing beneath the spectacular 25 de Abril Bridge in unforgettable style. Stepping ashore, I begin exploring the city despite heavy rain and strong winds, discovering Lisbon’s famous hills, viewpoints and historic streets as the weather slowly begins to improve over the two days. I visit many of Lisbon’s must-see highlights, including stunning panoramic viewpoints across the city, festive Christmas markets, and of course sampling plenty of the famous Pastel de Nata. As night falls, Lisbon transforms with beautiful Christmas lights and illuminated markets, creating a magical festive atmosphere. On the second day, I head to the historic district of Belém, visiting the iconic Belém Tower, walking along the river past the great monuments, and exploring the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery, including a visit inside its breathtaking church. A ride on Lisbon’s famous yellow trams is another unforgettable highlight of the visit. Finally, it’s time to return to P&O Iona. After a long delay, we sail away beneath the bridge once more with only metres of clearance in a dramatic departure from Lisbon. But the captain has warned us that very rough seas lie ahead as we begin our stormy journey back to Southampton… Recorded December 2025 Subscribe to Cruise with Bob again next time!
