We Put Norwegian’s “Freestyle” Cruising to the TEST! Can it REALLY Work for a Family of 4? | Getaway
We finally get to experience what Norwegian Cruise Line calls “Freestyle Cruising” — and this is where things get interesting! As a family of four with young kids, we're used to having a little more order, structure, and routine when we cruise. With PJ and Laiah, timing matters. Meals, naps, activities, kids clubs, and bedtime can all make a difference when you're traveling as a family. So this Norwegian Getaway cruise is giving us a chance to find out: Does Freestyle Cruising actually work for a young family like ours? And this first night is our first real test. We start the vlog by getting PJ registered for Splash Academy, Norwegian's kids club. If you've never experienced the registration process before, we're taking you along so you can see what it's actually like getting your child checked in and ready to enjoy the kids club. After a long morning of traveling and embarking on the ship, we were supposed to go back to the cabin and take a much-needed family nap... BUT NOBODY TOOK A NAP! 😂 So naturally, it's time for dinner. We head to The Manhattan Room, one of the largest dining rooms onboard Norwegian Getaway, and this is where we start noticing one of the biggest differences with Freestyle Cruising. The service felt slow for our family, and when you have young kids, waiting around at dinner isn't exactly ideal. We're used to a certain rhythm when we cruise, so this definitely gave us something to think about. BUT THEN THE FOOD CAME OUT... And honestly? We were SHOCKED by how good it tasted! The food was incredibly flavorful and definitely exceeded our expectations. So while the dining experience wasn't perfect for our family's schedule, the actual food left a VERY good first impression. And then we decided it was time to experience some of the nightlife onboard Norwegian Getaway. Our first party of the cruise was a Latin Night party in the aft of the ship, and the atmosphere was completely different! The music was GOOD. The vibes were GOOD. And before long, we were dancing our hearts out! This was our first real night experiencing Norwegian Getaway as a family, and we're already starting to see why so many people describe Norwegian Cruise Line as a different kind of cruising experience. We're only one night in... But is Freestyle Cruising actually going to work for the Phil & Dee family?
