If you’ve been cruising for years, you may have noticed that the cruise experience feels very different than it did just five years ago. In this video, we’re talking about some of the biggest changes longtime cruisers are noticing: less personalized service, higher prices, increasing gratuities, more crowded ships, and even more reports of fights and disruptive behavior onboard. Cruising has traditionally been one of the best vacation values available. You unpack once, visit multiple destinations, enjoy entertainment, food, activities, and service all in one place. But are cruise passengers still getting the same value today? One major complaint is service. Cruise lines have introduced larger ships carrying thousands of passengers, while some cruisers feel staffing and personalized attention haven’t kept pace. Things that once felt included or special may now come with an additional charge. Then there are cruise gratuities. Daily gratuity charges have increased on many cruise lines, and for a couple or family on a weeklong cruise, those charges can add a significant amount to the final vacation bill. Add drink packages, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, excursions, transportation, and other extras, and that advertised cruise fare may only be the beginning. And what about passenger behavior? Videos of cruise ship fights and confrontations frequently make the rounds on social media. Are fights actually becoming more common, or are smartphones simply allowing us to see incidents that would have gone unnoticed years ago? I still believe cruising can be a fantastic vacation, but longtime cruisers have a unique perspective on how the industry has changed. ⚓ I want to hear from YOU: If you’ve been cruising for five years or longer, is cruising better, worse, or just different today? Have you noticed changes in service, tipping, prices, food quality, crowds, or passenger behavior?
