When visiting the Amman Citadel, it's absolutely essential to come prepared for the weather—especially the sun. Although the site isn’t massive in size, stretching just from the Temple of Hercules to the Umayyad Palace, there’s almost no natural shade along the way. You’re completely exposed to the elements as you explore. I always recommend wearing a wide-brimmed hat and good sunglasses to protect your face and eyes. Sunscreen is a must, even on cloudy days, because the sun here is intense, and there’s very little relief from it. Long, lightweight sleeves can also help protect your arms without making you feel too hot. Don’t forget your footwear. While the Citadel isn’t huge, the ground is uneven in places, and you’ll be walking on stone, gravel, and occasionally up small inclines or stairs. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good grip make a big difference. If you're visiting in the warmer months, bring water with you or buy some at the small vendor near the entrance. Dehydration can sneak up on you quickly in the dry heat. Overall, the Amman Citadel is a stunning place to explore, but coming prepared means you’ll be able to enjoy the site comfortably and safely.
