Livorno/Florence, Italy – 8th Ports of Our Mediterranean Cruise
In Livorno, we have the ambitious plan of taking the cruise shuttle to the bus station that will take us to Livorno Centrale train station, where we will take the train to Florence. On the way there we are not in a hurry as we booked our tickets to visit the Uffizi Galleries at 2:30pm. All goes well and we arrive in Florence a bit after noon time. We had a little time to walk around Florence Cathedral, admire all the sculptures in the area end even visit the banks of the Arno river and enjoy view of the lovely Ponte Vechio. Eventually we line up to enter the museum where we spent a couple of hours admiring all the incredible Renaissance art by masters like Michelangelo, DaVinci and Botticelli. But somehow we could not find “The David”! Only to be told that the original from Michelangelo is in the Academia Gallery! We are such fools! I kinda knew this but in all the excitement of our travels I forgot. :(. No worries. We will return for you David! Since we still had some time before catching the train, we had some drinks and snacks and walked around the city some more before heading to the train station. The train ride back was uneventful, but once we got to Livorno we could not find a taxi, which was our plan to head back to port. So we jumped on the bus and prayed it was the right one, which thankfully it was. As we arrived to catch the port shuttle bus, it was already leaving and we had to run like crazy! But we made it! We were soooooo thankful! Us and another woman were the last people to board the ship. To think that we almost missed it! :O We promised ourselves not to try that again! This was our second visit to the lovely Florence, but it won’t be our last. After all… David is waiting for us. :) Ciao for now. Our next port will be Cannes in France. Thank you for watching.
