We Skipped Seville & Explored Cádiz on Our Own | Spain Cruise Port
We skipped the Seville excursion and spent our cruise port day exploring Cádiz, Spain on foot—and we really enjoyed this town! With no excursion booked, we wandered through narrow shopping streets, explored a bustling market packed with seafood and fresh fruit, and followed the waterfront to an island fortress. Cádiz gave us plenty to see at our own pace. Along the way, we discovered: • The Monument to the Constitution of 1812 • Plaza de San Juan de Dios, City Hall, and the Moret monument • Cádiz Cathedral and the surrounding old town streets • Plaza de las Flores and the Columella monument • Mercado Central de Cádiz, filled with seafood, produce, and local food stalls • Huge fig trees near the waterfront • Castillo de San Sebastián • Parque Genovés, which was unfortunately closed when we visited • Alameda Apodaca Gardens and the monument to the Marquis of Comillas We had hoped to rest inside Parque Genovés, but it was closed! Even with that disappointment, we enjoyed the waterfront and the beautiful gardens farther along our walk. If your cruise stops in Cádiz and you’re deciding whether to book an excursion or explore independently, join us for a look at how we spent our day staying local. 🚢 This video is part of our series documenting four months living aboard Sky Princess and cruising through Europe. We’re Ed & Mai, the WanderFree Retirees! We retired early and are exploring the world on a limited budget, sharing our cruise port days, travel experiences, and life along the way.
