Edinburgh Cruise Port: Worth the Effort to Get There? | Sky Princess
Is Edinburgh worth the effort on a cruise port day? Getting there took a water shuttle, a bus ride and more time than we expected—but once we arrived, we found a city full of character, history and incredible views. Join us as we explore Edinburgh, Scotland, independently during our Sky Princess cruise. We wander past whisky bars and cashmere shops, encounter a Braveheart-style street performer shouting “Freedom!”, explore historic landmarks and climb Calton Hill for panoramic views across the city. We also spend time slowing down at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, enjoying its walking paths, greenery and water-lily pond. Along the way, our day includes: • Calton Hill and the National Monument of Scotland • The Dugald Stewart and Nelson monuments • St Giles’ Cathedral on the Royal Mile • New College at the University of Edinburgh • The Scott Monument • St Andrew Square Garden and the Melville Monument • The Duke of Wellington statue—with a traffic cone on his horse! • Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Our takeaway? Edinburgh has plenty to see and do on your own, but getting into the city takes some planning. With so much spread across the city, a tour could also be worth considering, depending on your interests, available time and how much walking you want to do. This video is part of our series documenting nearly four months living aboard Sky Princess while cruising around Europe. We’re sharing the ports, everyday experiences and lessons we learn along the way. We’re Ed & Mai, the WanderFree Retirees! We retired early and are exploring how far a limited retirement budget can take us—from cruise ports around the world to our next chapter in Thailand.
